Today we re-released Startup Manager 2.4.2. The reason for this re-release are numerous fixes in the OpenCandy version included in the installer. So if you already have Startup Manager 2.4.2 installed there is no reason to update because the Startup Manager version included in the installer is exactly the same.
Together with Startup Manager 2.4.2, today Opencandy was released for the first time. And the brand new version of Startup Manager already makes use of it.
"Opencandy’s goal is to fuel innovation and prosperity in the software community, and deliver the best applications to the right users."
OpenCandy is a network, created by six founding DivX members, of software creators who like to increase the visibility of their application by recommending each other’s. This is done by inserting an extra page in the installer to create a user-friendly experience and offer optimal engagement for making a software recommendation.... read more

And we have more good news to announce. We have finally reached the milestone of 100.000 downloads! Since the first release back in May 2005 the number of downloads has been increasing almost monthly.
And that's not all, about half of the 100.000 downloads so far happened in the last 8 months. So I think we can say we're doing a good job.
Dimitar (aka mitakas) provided us with a Bulgarian translation. The installer for the translation can be downloaded over here: http://downloads.sourceforge.net/st-m/StM_Bulgarian-1.0.exe .
Note that because this translation was released after Startup Manager 2.4.1, it is not included in the Startup Manager installer. But you can download and install it separately by clicking the previously mentioned download link or by navigating to the translations page in the downloads section of the official website and selecting the Bulgarian installer.... read more
Thanks to Jelena we now have a Croatian translation for Startup Manager. It can be downloaded at the following location: http://downloads.sourceforge.net/st-m/StM_Croatian-1.0.exe
Note that because this translation was released after Startup Manager 2.4.1, it is not included in the Startup Manager installer. But you can download and install it separately by clicking the previously mentioned download link or by navigating to the translations package yourself and selecting the Croatian installer.
The translations package for Startup Manager 2.4.1 can be found over here: https://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=137182&package_id=226099&release_id=601625 ... read more
At some point, the following question asks itself. We’d like to know your opinion.
You can vote on the Startup Manager website: http://startupmanager.org/news/2008/07/01/should-we-continue-supporting-old-windows-versions/
Until now, this question never asked itself because Startup Manager is build from api calls that are available on all Windows verions (except pre-95...). But we came up with an idea for a new feature and this feature cannot be implemented on Windows versions prior to NT.... read more
Thanks to MegaBrutal we now have a Hungarian translation for Startup Manager. It can be downloaded at the following location: http://downloads.sourceforge.net/st-m/StM_Hungarian-1.0.exe
Note that because this translation was released after Startup Manager 2.4.1, it is not included in the Startup Manager installer. But you can download and install it separately by clicking the previously mentioned download link or by navigating to the translations package yourself and selecting the Hungarian installer.
The translations package for Startup Manager 2.4.1 can be found over here: https://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=137182&package_id=226099&release_id=601625... read more
Anyone who hit the "project web site" button or tried to access http://st-m.sourceforge.net/ will have noticed that he came on a different web page. I suggest you get used to it since that's the new Startup Manager website. It is accessible through http://startupmanager.org/ and is hosted by 1 & 1 Internet inc.
Our goal with this new website was to provide a fresh and modern looking design to anyone who is interested. The website uses Wordpress as backend and is designed by George French (aka Deimnos).
As of today the new website replaces the old one, but it is not yet completely finished. The download page still needs some final touches and the wiki section isn't implemented yet.... read more
It's been a while that we released a new version of Startup Manager, therefore we now release version 2.4.1.
The new version 2.4.1 of Startup Manager - a program to manage the programs that start automatically - has some bug fixes and some settings that will improve the user experience. We also have four new translations available: Indonesian, Korean, Serbian and Vietnamese.
For a complete list of changes, you might want to check our history file: http://st-m.svn.sourceforge.net/viewvc/st-m/tags/v2_4_1/History.txt?revision=1323&view=markup
Or just check the release notes.... read more
As announced, we are currently working at a new website for the Startup Manager project. I'd like to thank Deimnos, he's the guy working at the website. And as if that was not enough, he also donated webspace and the domain name http://startupmanager.org/ . Thank you very much!
So far we already have done quite a bit of work and we are at a point we can already show you the website (however it's not yet at a point where we can release it and replace the old website). If you want to, you can already visit it on the new domain name http://startupmanager.org/ .
Just like the old website, we'll also be using the Wordpress CMS as backend now. With the difference that now the Wordpress CMS is integrated into the website instead of the website into Wordpress, which is the case with the old website.
If you visit the new website, you'll note that the wiki page is still under development and that the news page's css isn't fully written yet (Wordpress has way too many css classes :P). And if you happen to visit the website using M$ Internet Explorer, you'll notice the layout is messed up (the content boxes are not displayed correctly). We'll fix this later, first we'll implement the entire css, then we'll make it IE compatible.... read more
As Startup Manager is becoming more and more grown up, I wanted to see that reflected in the project website. Currently the website is a custom theme used with the Wordpress content management system and it looks a lot like a blog instead of a project website. Therefore I posted a "help wanted" message asking for someone who wanted to update the website.
Well, I recieved some reactions on this post and discussed a bit about the website design I'd like. Right now deimnos is a member of the project and is working at the website. And we hope to have it online soon.... read more
First of all: A happy new year to everyone! And then the news...
Startup Manager has been downloaded over 50000 times!
St-m is a startup manager for windows. Its main functionality consists of adding, removing and renaming items to the windows startup sections. It also supports enabling/disabling items and the disabled items are msconfig compatible. Startup Manager supports the following start sections: the two start folders, win.ini, the main registry start sections for current and all users (run, run once, run services, ...) and also the winlogon sections (userinit and shell) and it can also handle browser helper objects. There also is a tool to create a *.bat file that starts programs in a certain order.... read more
After a long delay (almost a month late) I finally released Startup Manager 2.4. It took so long because I had some problems finding volunteers to update some of the translations.
The new version 2.4 of Startup Manager - a program to manage the programs that start automatically - now adds support for Browser Helper Objects. Another major change you'll notice are the new menus, they look a bit like the ms office 2003 menus now and there is a nice title bar in the left view.... read more
We seem to have a rather annoying problem…
So far we’ve been unable to find someone who wants to update our Catalan translation. And before I can release Startup Manager 2.4, this translation needs to be updated too (the others already are). Therefore I am already waiting almost a month to release Startup Manager 2.4! It’s not a lot of work, only 12 sentences.
Interested? Leave a reply on this post or contact me at cnx_glenn[at]users[dot]sourceforge[dot]net.... read more
Yesterday I created a new tracker called "Translation errors". Its purpose is to provide users an interface to report errors in translations of Startup Manager such as spelling mistakes or badly translated sentences.
In my opinion this tracker is usefull because even the best can make a typing mistake and trying to find these mistakes in your own text isn't easy. I know this from experience.... read more
It is a fact that project of the proportions of Startup Manager need good documentation. But as I haven't had time so far to write this documentation myself, I used doxygen to generate it.
Doxygen was used to generate documentation for the Startup Manager boot core (the Boot namespace). I also haven't had the time to write doxygen-style comments in the Startup Manager source files, but I think the current documentation already provides a lot of very useful information such as dependencies and usage. I'll comment the Startup Manager source code with doxygen-style comments as soon as I find some time.... read more
Like the previous one, the 2.3.2 release isn't a major release either. But it certainly contains some new interesting interface features. For instance it now is possible to sort the start items in the main view by clicking the column headers and there are in-place tooltips for items that don't fit their cell width.
The properties dialogs were updated too, now it is possible to select and copy the values.... read more
To make this project a little more famous, I've submitted it to several software download sites.
Only sofotex responded so far and they gave st-m their highest rating (5 stars). You can find Startup Manager on the following location on that website: http://www.sofotex.com/Startup-Manager-download_L65677.html... read more
Not a major release this time, just some bugfixes and minor feature additions. It now is possible to delete a selection of multiple items and there is a run button to run an item now.
The most important bugfix is that now all transparency problems in the properties dialogs are solved. Thus the icons in the tab controls and the static text fields have a correct background color now. Also when Startup Manager regains focus, this focus is set to the correct control now.... read more
From now on I will use a code-signing certificate to sign Startup Manager and its setup to ensure it hasn't been altered.
For more information, read the article I posted on the project website: http://st-m.sourceforge.net/?p=10
The new version 2.3 of Startup Manager - a program to manage the programs that start automatically - now adds support for translations. There also is a "check for update"-dialog now and there are brand new shiny toolbar icons!

From now on Startup Manager supports translations.

After more then one year our project website finally is online!
