My system is a sort of self-hacked up OpenSSI 1.9.1+ based on Debian SID. In my struggles to keep up-to-date I'm wonderering about the rationale for some of the OpenSSI patches for Debian. For example, there is a modified version of dpkg, the Debian package tool. As far as I can tell this consists of forcing /etc/self/localview to "default" each time dpkg is run. What's the logic here? I suppose some things might work badly if someone runs "localview dpkg", but do we need a modified version of dpkg just to avoid that pilot error? |
