We are looking to deploy a web based mail service for our existing
users. We are moving from a windows enviroment to a linux enviroment.
We have 10,000 users, of which 2,500 currently use our web messaging.
On any given day at anytime there are 150-200 users connected to our
current web messaging. Our current web messaging is pop3 based.
I was wondering if squirrelmail and imap can scale well. I have read
through the archives and I keep seeing people talk about sluggish
response for just a few mailboxes. Is anyone running a large
deployment? Any issues to look out for? I am right in thinking, lots
and lots of ram?
Our current windows system gets by on a PII350 with 678MB of RAM. Our
new server is beefier, so far linux has paid off in at the OS level
using resources better, but I am worried about IMAP and squirrel mail.
Does anyone know of the largest squirrel mail system?
