Thanks for the input on translation of addressbooks/calendars from
outlook to MySql based DB (which works with squirrel).
However, I am looking for an easier solution for users. I know there
are some CSV scripts out there which do the job, but telling that to a
fairly newbie or casual user is pretty difficult. Too many steps for
them to export, then convert, etc.
Writing an outlook plugin in visual basic or visual c++ which would sync
addresses with the DB the way that plugins work for the pocketpcs or
with visor/palm varieties would be the best.
I have actually bought (ugh) msoft c++ and started playing around with
its API for accessing the outlook calendar and addressbook, but admit I
have a ways to go. I then could use an API for DB access and then.
hopefully synch is accomplished!
The real boon is a mobile user could synch his addressbook wherever
he/she is and whether using outlook, squirrelmail, or any other client
that a plugin has been provided for with the proper DB interface.
Then good by Microsoft exchange. at least for the vast majority of us.
