I updated the Filters plugin again. I just made it a teeny bit smarter about remembering the results of previous DNS queries (just for the lifetime of one scan). That way, if you subscribe to a bunch of mailing lists like I do, when your inbox contains 30 new messages from some mailing list, the IP address the FIRST message from that list came from is checked against the DNS databases you selected, but the answer to that query is used for every other message in your inbox coming from that same IP. It doesn't hafta perform the same DNS query over an' over. For a quick test to see if it helped, I scanned my already filtered inbox with the old filters plugin (about 30 seconds) and then scanned it again with the new plugin (about 26 seconds). No biggie. But then I shuffled all the filtered SPAM and all the filtered email for the DHCP mailing list back into my inbox (about a week's worth of email from dhcp-server) and the retried both versions. The old filters plugin took a full minute to scan my inbox. The new one only took 31 seconds. (grin) Your mileage may vary, so I left both versions available on the plugins page. Lemme know what the rest of you find (faster or slower or same). But let me know off list, of course. :-) Brent |
