I am wondering if there is a plugin that, through the
use of filters, could send a text alert to a cell phone.
For instance, I might set up an alert if I'm waiting for
an important email and would like to be notified as
soon as it arrives.

If there is anything like that or if there is a technique
people use to do such a thing (other than leaving
Outlook open all day -- because I could set up
a "forward" function to have it sent to my verizon email
address for an alert), I'd appreciate the suggestions.

If not, is this a feasible thing to do?

    The only way that'd work would be to leave SM running at all
    times, and use a secondary service. There is another option
    *if* your phone service supports it. You can setup a
    procmail rule, that forwards a mail to your phone number's
    email address... ie:

    <phone number>@<provider>

    My phone service allows for this kind of option.

    Mine does have that (number@provider email address). Is
    there a way to set up a filter with "procmail" so that only
    certain messages trigger an alert?

    If you could point me to some documentation on how to do
    this it would be much appreciated!

    Read up on how to write filters, then you can create a
    filter to specifically trigger on that certain mail. You'll
    probably be looking for something like this:

    :0
    * ^From:.*requiredfrom@domain\.tld
    * ^Subject:.*required subject
    {
    :0c
    ! number@provier

    :0:
    normal/mail/folder
    }

    That is a basic idea anyway. I put the second option in so
    that you still get a copy in your mail box, and a copy gets
    set to your phone. You might want to look into using a
    different option, such as just sending a small alert,
    instead of the whole mail. Probably something like:

    :0c
    | echo "Important Mail arrived" | $SENDMAIL $SENDMAILFLAGS
    number@provider

    Hope that gives you an idea.

    Closing, as this is a feature that belongs in the MTA, not in SquirrelMail.
