I wrote a big chunk of code for Ben Brillat's plugin
(delete_move_next) and unfortunately, the only way to
do things was to fsck around with the global msort
and msg arrays. This clearly sucks.

You are correct, the current system does clearly suck. As a
part of development of Squirrelmail 2, we will be
developing a message API that will provide the requested
functionality. Thank you for your suggestion and keep
    Squirrelmailing.

    Marc -

Part of the new Mailbox interface should be a standard way
to navigate messages (prev/next) with, perhaps, a flag to
delete the current message while moving to the prev/next
    message.

Since you've been handling this backend stuff, thought I'd
assign it to you for now.. :-P
