EIMS email server version
running Eudora Internet Mail Server X 3.2.6

Search yields:
ERROR : Bad or malformed request.
Query: FETCH (FLAGS UID RFC822.SIZE
BODY.PEEK[HEADER.FIELDS (Date To Cc From Subject X-Priority
Content-Type)])
Server responded: syntax error in message set

From the EIMS developer:
The FETCH command should have a message set in between the
"FETCH"
and the list of attributes to retrieve, eg:
FETCH 1,5,11 (FLAGS UID RFC822.SIZE...

You don't mention your PHP versions. If you are using PHP
4.3.10, make sure you upgraded any cache or optimizer
engines. A poster to the SM users list had a similar issue
until they upgraded some Zend optimizer they were using.

    Am using PHP version 5.3.6-13ubuntu3.2
and Squirrel Mail version : 1.4.23 [SVN]
I too experience the same issue. I guess when the SEARCH commands returns an empty set (result) then this exception occurs.

  • Can you please confirm the version of EIMS you're running and the error message? (The original report is so old, if you still see the same issue, we'd like diagnostics against v1.4.23.)

Also, can you please explain step-by-step how you produce this so we are able to see what you are doing?

It seems like EIMS is returning non-standard search replies, at least to empty search sets. You can try to help debug by opening the file:

    functions/imap_search.php

And adding the following line somewhere around line 109-112 (just after the IMAP response is read and before it processes the results):

    sm_print_r('IMAP RESPONSE WAS (readin):', $readin);
