I just installed Squirrel 3.0.1 and no longer have my columns appear in the Ctrl-Space code completion any more. I'm hoping someone can help. I had a hard drive crash, and I've had to reconstruct everything. It just worked the first time when I installed in on my old computer. The only DB driver I have when viewing through Squirrel is JDBC ODBC bridge. I don't know if that's the one I used last time or not. I don't really know what other info to provide, but will gladly upon request. Thanks. David Win XP Pro Squirrel 3.0.1 MS Sql Server 2005 |

It's likely that the JDBC-ODBC bridge driver doesn't provide the column information needed to populate the code-completion. You should get the latest JDBC driver (.jar file) that is available for your database from your database vendor, copy that driver into <SQUIRREL_HOME>/lib and update your alias to use the new driver definition. You will most likely need to change the JDBC URL to work with the JDBC driver. Thanks Rob. I downloaded the JAR from Microsoft. Here's my connection string.... jdbc:sqlserver://DB_SERVER_NAME:1433;database=MY_DATABASE I'm getting a "login failed" error. I've tried just my username, domain\usernam, domain/username, but nothing. I can get in through MS SQL Management Studio, but I have to specify the database name, or it won't let me in. I know my server name and database name are right. I've tried it with and without the port number. Any clue anyone? I've noticed when installing SQLServer, that there is a place in the Management Studio for tcp/ip settings and in particular there is a listener port. Thanks, but no dice... yet. I tried different variations with and without the domain, but nothing worked. I tried it with and without also putting my user info in the separate boxes for it. Yes, I appended the user and password vars to the query string in the "URL" box. I see you are splitting up the string with the plus concatenation operator. Mine is just all one string. This is what I tried... jdbc:sqlserver://MY_DB:1433;databaseName=DB_NAME;user=USERNAME;password=MYPASS ... with my username and pw in the fields as well. I also tried with and without the domain on my username. If I do have to put in the domain, it is domain BACKSLASH username, right? I don’t if this may be the problem but I just noticed that you have MY_DB after “sqlserver://”, you are putting your server name there correct and not the database? Just a guess. Well, this is a whole world of details, isn't it? It's good to make sure of these kindsof things. Here's something worth mentioning. I had to use the sqljdbc4.jar instead of sqljdbc.jar because when I created a driver with sqljdbc.jar, the stack trace error said my version of Java (1.6) required that I use sqljdbc4.jar. I don't know if that makes any difference. Matt, that was helpful. I'll have to verify with the DBA that those settings are implemented. Just talked to the DBA. The server is set up for Mixed Auth and TCP/IP connections. Dang. I just don't know where to head, now. I like Squirrel, but all I really want is column name code completion. Does anyone know a program that can do that? I tried to find out if MS Mgmt Studio will, but have found nothing. Well, I was never able to figure this out. Then I remembered Toad, something I used to use a few years ago. That has code completion. I'd still love to get Squirrel working, so please reply if anyone ever has any ideas. On Tue, Apr 28, 2009 at 1:23 PM, David G <jam...@gm...> wrote: > Just talked to the DBA.
