Elliot,

You were probably responding to off-line advice from Robert.

Just in case here is a working URL from my Sybase connection alias (it is inaccessible from the outside, so I don’t mind the full text):

jdbc:sybase:Tds:eurservc.montefiore.org:4100/carecast

It is working in SQuirreL SQL 3.2.1 and 3.2.0, and is using

Sybase Adaptive Server Enterprise

driver and

com.sybase.jdbc3.jdbc.SybDataSource

class from Sybase’s

jConnect-6_0\classes\jconn3.jar

Only “hostname” property is set in “Driver properties”; no other properties were changed in other tabs under “Porperties”.

Hope this helps.

Robert:

Thanks I tried all that and get the same results.  It happens so fast that I am not sure that it is even attempting to make contact with the server.  Perhaps it is one of the 1000’s of setting, but at this point I have no idea what it could be.  I looked for help on the topic and sure enough there is nothing there.  We tried it from several other machines, login, and locations in the company with the same results.

Thanks for your help though.

Perhaps you could post the form of the URL (replace actual hostname/ipaddress with <host>) and the JDBC driver and version (both database server and client jdbc driver version).   That info might help us determine the cause of the connection failure.

I have all the correct drivers loaded and have been trying to connect to a URL, that I can get to via NetCool Impact, but through this software I get the following error:

Test2: Unable to create connection. Check your URL.

Like I said the URL does work with another application.   Does anyone have any idea what else it needs for a URL.  I have used fully qualified and IP address, with the same results.
