I'm using mysql-connector v3.1.12, rc2 SQuirrel and I
can't edit data from SQL query - simple select (select
* from <unique_table_name>). I could edit data only
from main session screen (there is 'Make Ediatable' in
menu in SQL not). Database is MySQL 4.1.14. Tested on
Win XP Pro and SuSe Linux.

    I made clean and default instalation of these:

    MySQL 4.1.14 - UTF-8 (utf8_general_ci)
    Squirrel 2.2 rc1 with MySQL and MSSQL plugins
    java version "1.5.0_06"
    Windows XP english version SP2 or GNU Linux (SuSe, Debian,
    Mandriva, RedHat WS 4)

    creating simple database and table:

    CREATE DATABASE `squirrel`
    CREATE TABLE `testing` (
    `id` INT NOT NULL AUTO_INCREMENT PRIMARY KEY ,
    `data` VARCHAR( 200 ) NOT NULL ,
    INDEX ( `data` )
    ) TYPE = MYISAM ;

    and put some data inside:

    INSERT INTO `testing` ( `id` , `data` )
    VALUES (
    NULL , 'test A'
    );
    INSERT INTO `testing` ( `id` , `data` )
    VALUES (
    NULL , 'test B'
    );
    INSERT INTO `testing` ( `id` , `data` )
    VALUES (
    NULL , 'test C'
    );

    and now in Squirrel connect to MySQL-database squirrel and
    in SQL field typing:

    select `id`,`data` from `testing`

    data was showned but not possible to edit it, only from
    Objects-Content (Make editable in right-click menu). Please
    see attached images.

    Now I can reproduce the problem. It seems that if I use
    your query (with the single quotes) the problem manifests
    itself. However, if I remove the quotes as in

    select id,data from testing

    The problem doesn't occur. It would be great if you could
    go back and test this (remove the quotes in your query)
    to make sure that I'm seeing the same behavior you are.
    In the meantime, I'll try to see what's causing this
    to happen.

    And I believe I found the problem. It has to do with this
    regular expression:

    SELECT\\s.*\\s+FROM\\s+([A-Z0-9_\\.]+)

    It doesn't account for single quotes around the tablename.
    I'll see about fixing it.

    Fixed in CVS. Will be available in next snapshot or 2.3 final.
