I have embedded VPN distribution having footprint of 57MB compact flash. I already ported it using ext2 filesystem on RouterBOARD 230 having 128MB SDRAM.
Is it possible to use squashFS on embedded board having network processor of 32MB flash and 32MB SDRAM?
Do distribution of 57MB get compressed to 32MB flash?
It is possible to use SquashFS on an embedded board with 32MB of flash and 32MB DRAM. Squashfs was initially designed for embedded systems, and I used Squashfs on an embedded board with only 16MB of NAND flash and 16MB of DRAM.
A root filesystem will mainly consist of binary executables, and so the compression achieved will be lower than for other data. A 57MB filesystem should compress to less than 32MB, but as mentioned, the compression obtained is highly dependant on the data.
