It would be useful to add the possibility of a sidechain to the compand/mcompand effects, e.g. for applications of 'ducking', 'dj talkover' or 'de-essing'. One suggestion on the sox-list (thread: "sidechaining in sox?") was to change the compand/mcompand effect so that it could take its volume measurement (level detection) in one channel, while acting on different (or all) channels.

This would be a great feature. If you could do effects on the sidechain that's be excellent, i.e. equalizer with a tight Q on a frequency to trigger specific bands of the mcompander.

SoX is great fun BTW + I use it for broadcast too. Thank you.
