Hi all, thanks in advance and congrats for your work.

We are getting no ipv4 addresses doing an arpnip in netdisco on our C6504 router which has a new processor board and updated IOS:

"Cisco IOS Software, s2t54 Software (s2t54-IPSERVICESK9-M), Version 15.0(1)SY4, RELEASE SOFTWARE (fc3) Technical Support: http://www.cisco.com/techsupport Copyright (c) 1986-2013 by Cisco Systems, Inc. Compiled Mon 18-Mar-13 00:26 by prod_rel_team"

Currently we are using these versions of SNMP::Info and Net-SNMP which have been updated to see if it was fixed in newer versions of the software ... no luck. Netdisco mib version is also the latest 1.4:

n e t d i s c o

Netdisco Version : 1.3
SNMP::Info Version : 3.12
Net-SNMP Version : 5.07021
Perl Version : 118.53.46.49.48.46.49

Running a netdisco -arpnip with -D parameter gives us:

Discussion

  • It's working fine for me, using SNMP::Info 3.12, Sup2T running IOS 15.1(1)SY.

    Same SNMP objects are polled:
    SNMP::Info::_load_attr orig_at_paddr : IP-MIB::ipNetToMediaPhysAddress : .1.3.6.1.2.1.4.22.1.2
    SNMP::Info::_load_attr orig_at_netaddr : IP-MIB::ipNetToMediaNetAddress : .1.3.6.1.2.1.4.22.1.3

    In your logging, no ARP entries are returned by the 6500. Could you verify the SNMP config on your Cat6k? Perhaps the .1.3.6.1.2.1.4.22 subtree is excluded from the view that you're using?

  • I'm really sorry!!!

    It's new hardware/IOS version and i was supposing that the previous snmp-server configuration has been kept by support ..... it was changed. I have already modified it and it is working as a charm ..... we were cutting out .22 subtree!!

    Again I apologize for the inconvenience and thank you all for the quick reply.

    Thank you!

  • It's not uncommon to hide this subtree from view on Cat6k, since polling it can impose a relatively high load on the supervisor CPU. OTOH, SNMP is scheduled with a low priority in IOS, so high CPU due to SNMP polling of the ARP table usually doesn't cause any problems.

    Good to hear that this resolved the issue, I'll close the ticket.

  • Not a bug, was caused by device config (ARP data hidden from SNMP view).
