SNAPPIX 0.9 removed!

We have decided to remove version 0.9 of SNAPPIX. From personal experience and from comments we have received, we have strong reason to believe that SNAPPIX 0.9 is problematic. Reported problems include intermittment failures (freezing), slowness, and an inability to boot.

Of course due to the wide number of possibilities some of these could be a hardware and software combination. However, since we are unable to confirm each and every case, we felt that it was better to remove version 0.9 and eliminate any possible problems.

IMPORTANT: MonoDevelop Issues in SNAPPIX 0.9

To our steemed users:

On behalf of the SNAP Platform and SNAPPIX project, we thank you for your downloads and for visiting our humble forum.

We address you to make you aware of an apparent problem with MonoDevelop in SNAPPIX 0.9. We have had intermitent crashes of MonoDevelop in SNAPPIX 0.9 on our development PCs at our lab.

SNAPPIX is developed by a group of undergraduate students at Interamerican University of Puerto Rico, and we have IBM ThinkCentre M50 workstations. On these workstations, MonoDevelop crashes quite often for no apparent reason. On other hardware or on VMware 4.5.2, the MonoDevelop in SNAPPIX 0.9 does have these problems.... read more

It's alive! A live CD, that is!

Tonight, at exactly 9:45 PM, February 17, 2005, with barely a week to go before release, SNAP Platform 0.5 reaches another milestone (we like cutting it close at SNAP Dev Center. :-)

The milestone: the SNAP DK snapshot from February 16, runs Eclipse 3.0.1, all straight from a CD, on clean "default packages only" Ubuntu Linux, SuSE 9.2, and Fedora Core 3 installs. Tomorrow Friday February 18, I will try to run this live CD on the workstations and personal laptops of various SNAP Dev Center personnel, whom I know will not have "prepared" their systems to run the live CD. Therefore their Linux systems will be as "typical" as I can get from a non-random sample. There are not that many Linux users in Puerto Rico, so this is as good a "field test" as I can get before getting the live CD and SNAP Platform in the hands of "real users".... read more

Very quickly, we will be pulling our team together and all kinds of craziness will promptly ensue. We've got big dreams, and the passion to take this even farther then anyone can imagine. Did I hear a siren call for the top ten most active projects list?
