    Usin gthe option
Options->Preferences->Advanced. Check the option "Don't repaint the
    background of the video window".
fixes the problem with video break (Now it's resizes smoothly),
hence audio playback still interrupts while resizing.

Yes, maybe this problem could be fixed by updating the video window less often.

I have the same problem when I stream music and want to make a change from standard sound to "Extrastereo" in filter or use 5.1. Each change in those setting for sound force a break which stop streaming and sometimes stream re-start, but sometimes this make SMPlayer hang.

    Windows XP x64 v2003 SP2;SMPlayer v. 0.5.29-qt-0730:Qt 4.2.3

Shouldn't player keep to play during whatever change that are made for audio in filters/channels/stereo mode without interruption? It make those changes more complicated then necessary and probably also not good for web streaming (radio) as it need to re-connect to server.

Some of the options require to restart the mplayer process. I know this is specially annoying with internet streams. The advise is: try to avoid it.
You can add the "extrastereo" filter in Preferences->Advanced->Audio filters before playing the stream.
