Hello, I can see that, surprisingly, database list is pretty busy and lots of new submissions are constantly being made, which makes me wonder how soon should one expect to see a submission included to the master db file? Ivan |

This will happen when some team member (including me) has enough spare time to add it. A drivedb entry is not required for most of smartmontools' functionality, with the exception of (SSD) attribute listings. Note that you could add local entries, see man page. |

Just to have an idea of what to expect, you know? In theory, you cannot expect anything. Everything is done by volunteers in unpaid spare time. In practice, I add most of the new submissions before a new smartmontools version is released. We typically provide ~2 releases per year. The USB entry for your WD device is now included, try update-smart-drivedb. Christian |

Makes me feel privileged :P However, there are some problems with the current version of the file: % smartctl -i /dev/sdc smartctl 5.42 2011-10-20 r3458 [i686-linux-3.4.2-2-ARCH] (local build) Copyright (C) 2002-11 by Bruce Allen, http://smartmontools.sourceforge.net /usr/share/smartmontools/drivedb.h(534): Syntax error in preset option string /usr/share/smartmontools/drivedb.h(560): Syntax error in preset option string /usr/share/smartmontools/drivedb.h(645): Syntax error in preset option string /usr/share/smartmontools/drivedb.h(2286): Syntax error in preset option string /usr/share/smartmontools/drivedb.h(2311): Syntax error in preset option string /usr/share/smartmontools/drivedb.h(2541): Syntax error in preset option string I grabbed [r3868] from http://sourceforge.net/p/smartmontools/code/3868/tree/trunk/smartmontools/drivedb.h and copied the file to /usr/share/smartmontools/drivedb.h Ivan |

Please update smartmontools or use the 5.42 drivedb branch: http://sourceforge.net/apps/trac/smartmontools/wiki/Download#Updatethedrivedatabase Thanks, Christian |

You can find a list of all the various drivedb.h files at the bottom of the "Update the drive database" section of: http://sourceforge.net/apps/trac/smartmontools/wiki/Download#Updatethedrivedatabase , but in short you want to grab from the following URL instead: http://sourceforge.net/p/smartmontools/code/HEAD/tree/branches/RELEASE_5_42_DRIVEDB/smartmontools/drivedb.h?format=raw Nathan ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Nathan Stratton Treadway - nat...@on... - Mid-Atlantic region Ray Ontko & Co. - Software consulting services - http://www.ontko.com/ GPG Key: http://www.ontko.com/~nathanst/gpg_key.txt ID: 1023D/ECFB6239 Key fingerprint = 6AD8 485E 20B9 5C71 231C 0C32 15F3 ADCD ECFB 6239 |
