That looks similar to "Predicted faiulure" on HP drives, but still it's different. I'm interested to see the whole output from -a, can you send it? -Lennart On Tue, Apr 1, 2008 at 11:00 AM, Ooi Kwan Chen <neo...@ho...> wrote: > > Hi there,Can you please tell me what does the error message below > meansSMART Health Status: FAILURE PREDICTION THRESHOLD EXCEEDED > [asc=5d,ascq=0]Thank you > - J o h N ™ - > _________________________________________________________________ > Windows Live Hotmail is giving away Zunes. > > http://www.windowslive-hotmail.com/ZuneADay/?locale=en-US&ocid=TXT_TAGLM_Mobile_Zune_V3 > ------------------------------------------------------------------------- > Check out the new SourceForge.net Marketplace. > It's the best place to buy or sell services for > just about anything Open Source. > > http://ad.doubleclick.net/clk;164216239;13503038;w?http://sf.net/marketplace > _______________________________________________ > Smartmontools-support mailing list > Sma...@li... > https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/smartmontools-support > -- Med Venlig Hilsen / Kind Regards Lennart Hansen |

Thanks Ooi, Predicted failure means your harddrive have logged too many failures to be relayed on for further use, you should get it replaced as soon as possible, before it stops working. -Lennart On Wed, Apr 2, 2008 at 3:13 AM, Ooi Kwan Chen <neo...@ho...> wrote: > > Hello, > > Below is the message from smartctl -a /dev/sda > > > smartctl version 5.33 [x86_64-redhat-linux-gnu] Copyright (C) 2002-4 Bruce > Allen > Home page is http://smartmontools.sourceforge.net/ > > Device: SEAGATE ST373207LC Version: D701 > Serial number: 3KT17GBX > Device type: disk > Transport protocol: Parallel SCSI (SPI-4) > Local Time is: Wed Apr 2 10:09:51 2008 PHT > Device supports SMART and is Enabled > Temperature Warning Enabled > SMART Health Status: FAILURE PREDICTION THRESHOLD EXCEEDED [asc=5d,ascq=0] > > Current Drive Temperature: 39 C > Drive Trip Temperature: 68 C > Vendor (Seagate) cache information > Blocks sent to initiator = 957701122 > Blocks received from initiator = 2201937675 > Blocks read from cache and sent to initiator = 1517534397 > Number of read and write commands whose size <= segment size = 3447850379 > Number of read and write commands whose size> segment size = 44 > > Error counter log: > Errors Corrected by Total Correction Gigabytes > Tot al > EEC rereads/ errors algorithm processed > unc orrected > fast | delayed rewrites corrected invocations [10^9 bytes] > err ors > read: 3406590669 54 49 3406590772 3406593832 > 121219.693 0 > write: 0 0 0 0 0 17544.999 > 0 > verify: 0 0 0 0 0 0.000 > 0 > > Non-medium error count: 45 > > Error Events logging not supported > > SMART Self-test log > Num Test Status segment LifeTime > LBA_first_err [ SK ASC ASQ] > Description number (hours) > # 1 Background short Completed - 22288 > - [ - - -] > # 2 Background long Completed - 0 > - [ - - -] > # 3 Background short Completed - 0 > - [ - - -] > > Long (extended) Self Test duration: 1405 seconds [23.4 minutes] > > Can you please tell me what is the problem here?
