Hi list, I have added two new hard drives to the "Supported USB-Devices" wiki page. Both of these are 120GB WD Passport disks. 1058:0701 is an usbcypress IDE enclosure, more info at https://sourceforge.net/apps/trac/smartmontools/wiki/USB_0x1058%3A0701 1058:0702 is a plain SATA enclosure, more info at https://sourceforge.net/apps/trac/smartmontools/wiki/USB_0x1058%3A0702 The curious thing about the latter is that smartctl claims to know this disk ("In smartctl database"), but I still need to specify "-T permissive" in order to use it; otherwise smartctl fails with "Error SMART Status command failed". I think the database needs to be updated. Is there any more useful info that I can provide? Is the wiki an appropriate place to store this sort of info? Regards, Marti |

It typically means that the values of the ATA output registers are not properly passed from the SATA drive to the application. It could be a bug in the SAT layer of the USB bridge firmware, or a bug in the SCSI pass-through functionality of the OS. Thanks, Christian |
