I used the spec file included in the cvs version of smartmontools.
It installs via "rpm -i" like charm, but though I cannot find any start or
kill files e.g. in /etc/rc.d/rc5.d/, the runlevel I usuall use.
Instead it gots installed in /etc/rc.d/init.d/...
This is not the standard SuSE style, isn't it?
Looks like one has to start the daemon by hand every time, if installed in
If I try to install the init script via "insserv" I get the following:
# cd /etc/rc.d/init.d/; insserv ./smartd
insserv: Service syslog has to be enabled for service smartd
insserv: exiting now!
which is strange, since syslog is enabled, which can be seen from the
# ls ../rc5.d/*sys*
It turned out that I had to copy the script "smartd" from /etc/rc.d/init.d/
into /etc/rc.d/ and call the insserv from there. ONLY then I got the proper
start and stop links created. I guess this should be taken into account in
the spec file.
