Hi Bruce and all, I don't understand the following sentence from the smartctl manpages: ----------------8<---------------- If the command that caused the error was a READ or WRITE command, then the Logical Block Address (LBA) at which the error occurred will be printed in base 10 and base 16. ----------------8<---------------- I got a hex number with version 5.1-4 and the same address in decimal format with the later versions. Since there is only one column for LBA, what do you mean by 10 _and_ 16 ? Cheers, Gabriele |

Man page is right. It's the ERROR log (not SELFTEST log) that it's printed in both formats. See: http://smartmontools.sourceforge.net/examples/FUJITSU_MHR2020AT.txt for an example. But there is a fault in the manpages about the format of LBA in selftest log: ----------------8<---------------- selftest - prints the SMART self-test log. [...] If any errors were detected, the Logical Block Address (LBA) of the first error is printed in hexadecimal notation. ----------------8<---------------- It's a decimal notation in the actual version. You must be looking at an obsolete version of the manual page. At the start of the man page it should say (for example): PACKAGE VERSION smartmontools-5.32 released 2004/07/05 at 08:10:26 UTC and at the end it should say: CVS ID OF THIS PAGE: $Id: smartctl.8.in,v 1.53 2004/06/13 19:49:54 ballen4705 Exp $ What does YOUR man page say? You are right -- I have fixed this in CVS this morning.
