Hi, I have a disk with "current pending sector" is stuck at 1 and I don't know if I should worry. I've read some stuff about this error and tried to run a test using "smartctl -t long". It says to wait for 235 minutes. But "smartctl -l selftest" does not report any test running, instead of "Self-test routine in progress" and an increasing % of completion I have seen on some docs. Tests seem to run automatically however because "LifeTime(hours)" increases over time. All statuses are "Completed without error". The disk is part of a software raid 6 array of 3 disks (Hitachi 1 TB), and all raid devices are healthy. Does this means that the pending sector belongs to the unpartitioned part of the disk ? Why is it still "pending" ? Should I remove the drive from the raid array and run the test again ? Any hint or pointer is appreciated ! Thanks ****************************************************************** smartctl -H /dev/sdc ****************************************************************** smartctl version 5.38 [x86_64-unknown-linux-gnu] Copyright (C) 2002-8 Bruce Allen Home page is http://smartmontools.sourceforge.net/ === START OF READ SMART DATA SECTION === SMART overall-health self-assessment test result: PASSED ****************************************************************** smartctl -A /dev/sdc ****************************************************************** smartctl version 5.38 [x86_64-unknown-linux-gnu] Copyright (C) 2002-8 Bruce Allen Home page is http://smartmontools.sourceforge.net/ === START OF READ SMART DATA SECTION === SMART Attributes Data Structure revision number: 16 Vendor Specific SMART Attributes with Thresholds: ID# ATTRIBUTE_NAME FLAG VALUE WORST THRESH TYPE UPDATED WHEN_FAILED RAW_VALUE 1 Raw_Read_Error_Rate 0x000b 099 099 016 Pre-fail Always - 131072 2 Throughput_Performance 0x0005 127 127 054 Pre-fail Offline - 133 3 Spin_Up_Time 0x0007 100 100 024 Pre-fail Always - 332 4 Start_Stop_Count 0x0012 100 100 000 Old_age Always - 6 5 Reallocated_Sector_Ct 0x0033 100 100 005 Pre-fail Always - 0 7 Seek_Error_Rate 0x000b 100 100 067 Pre-fail Always - 0 8 Seek_Time_Performance 0x0005 125 125 020 Pre-fail Offline - 33 9 Power_On_Hours 0x0012 097 097 000 Old_age Always - 24491 10 Spin_Retry_Count 0x0013 100 100 060 Pre-fail Always - 0 12 Power_Cycle_Count 0x0032 100 100 000 Old_age Always - 6 192 Power-Off_Retract_Count 0x0032 100 100 000 Old_age Always - 677 193 Load_Cycle_Count 0x0012 100 100 000 Old_age Always - 677 194 Temperature_Celsius 0x0002 193 193 000 Old_age Always - 31 (Lifetime Min/Max 23/37) 196 Reallocated_Event_Count 0x0032 100 100 000 Old_age Always - 0 197 Current_Pending_Sector 0x0022 100 100 000 Old_age Always - 1 198 Offline_Uncorrectable 0x0008 100 100 000 Old_age Offline - 0 199 UDMA_CRC_Error_Count 0x000a 200 200 000 Old_age Always - 0 ****************************************************************** smartctl -l error /dev/sdc ****************************************************************** smartctl version 5.38 [x86_64-unknown-linux-gnu] Copyright (C) 2002-8 Bruce Allen Home page is http://smartmontools.sourceforge.net/ === START OF READ SMART DATA SECTION === SMART Error Log Version: 1 No Errors Logged ****************************************************************** smartctl -t long /dev/sdc ****************************************************************** smartctl version 5.38 [x86_64-unknown-linux-gnu] Copyright (C) 2002-8 Bruce Allen Home page is http://smartmontools.sourceforge.net/ === START OF OFFLINE IMMEDIATE AND SELF-TEST SECTION === Sending command: "Execute SMART Extended self-test routine immediately in off-line mode".
