sorry for asking maybe a question that was already asked several times, but I could not find while goggling around any sufficient answers.
And even the man page for smartd and smartctl only contains examples for hardware raids like from 3ware.
We generated out of 4 SCSI drives a SOFTWARE RAID 5.
OS is Suse 10.2
The SCSI controller is a Adaptec controller on a Intel server board with 2 Pentium III CPUs
We boot from an IDE drive and use the raid5 for our homes.
1.) Is a possible to monitor the discs of a software raid5 sufficiently with smartd or smartctl at all?
2.) If yes, what are the parameters you need to have in /etc/smartd.conf or on the command line with smartctl ?
Thanks in advance for your help,
