Hi to all!

We have a couple of pretty new 500G Maxtor disks and some Short offline Self-tests have failed in the last days. They are in different machines (all with Slackware 12.2 and smartmontools 5.38 - the precompiled package), but the behaviour is the same:

- Short offline Self-tests fail randomly (always at 50% or it ends ok).
- Extended offline Self-tests don't fail (al least for now).
- There are no LBA_of_first_error.
- The SMART Error Log says: 'No Errors Logged'.
- messages like 'Sep  3 02:33:17 smartd[633]: Device: /dev/hda, Self-Test Log error count increased from 6 to 7' are found in /var/log/syslog.
- badblocks -v /dev/hda doesn't claim any bad block.

What can be happening? Is there a way to get more information? Maybe a problem not in the disk sectors but in other parts? Something in the software?
