JMicron implements a special SCSI command for SMART STATUS. It apparently does not work properly here and returns a bogus result.
How can I suppress this error message that repeatedly comes from smartd.

Remove -H directive from smartd.conf line. If -a is used, replace with:
  -f -t -l error -l selftest -l selfteststs
accomplished.

Could you possibly
1. retry the test on a Linux box or with a Live CD on same machine?

I will try with a Linux CD as soon as possible. That will last at least a few days.

2. retry the test with the disk removed from the enclosure and connected to a MB SATA port?
I only have a notebook computer and this one external HDD. So I have no means to connect the HDD in a different way.

Bernd
