The topic editor in 2.2 now lets you tell which sections a topic belongs to.
What is that supposed to do? Can't you still use any topic in any section?
Or what's the deal with those?

When you edit the topic mark it for all of the sections you want to
be able to use it.
Here is the thing, on sites with a lot of topics, the menu to select
topics become a bit of a nightmare. This allows you to keep
things seperate. Also, on sites that have multiple sections
working in isolation this keeps things nice and clean.
Exact same accounts, exact same database. www happens to be an
isolated section (how I do this is a little on the undocumented
side, for those who know about the DB hack I used to use, I am
no longer having to do even it). If you look at the submit's
pulldown you can see how only topics which are particular to
that site are found.
BTW all three sites that share that db, (www, software, media) all
have their own Apache instance. So this does eat up some memory.
Somewhere in the back of my mind I actually have a solution
At the moment it doesn't bother me though. That machine is
running 7 or so slashsites without any issues.
