Enable the ability for a user to watch a thread. I'm
picturing something like the following:
-Attach an icon/button to the highest parent comment
of a thread. All logged in users may select that icon.
-Upon selection, any posts made in response to that
thread will generate a notification message to the
user indicating a new post has been made.
-This enables a user to monitor a discussion as it
unfolds without the need to search for or dig up the
discussion and check to see if new posts have been
made.
-On the user's page (ie, slashdot.org/~username)
include a link to a list of currently watched
discussions.
-Recommend limiting the number of watched threads to
limit the amount of load on the servers. Also
recommend removal of threads from the watch list after
the story gets archived.

yup, I thought of the same thing. It could into a slashbox,
and maybe it could change the background color or put a
pattern there as a notification of activity of a watched thread.

I don't think it should only be the highest level of a
thread, instead each post should be able to be chosen as a
thread parent, and gets listed in this slashbox I talked about.

Just let me see the reply-count from the last 15 posts I
choose ( don't mark my posts as being new in these threads),
and have the title of the slashbox link to all your posts.
