Under the old system, I could alter the threshold on a single article (if I were moderating, or if I wanted to read more/less) without saving the settings. I could even bookmark or share this altered view (since the alteration was a GET operation, manifesting in a reusable URL).

Under the AJAX-powered discussion2 comment view, I cannot do this, since the mode and threshold query strings are ignored. If I change the view, it saves that change and I find the next article I read is affected. I cannot bookmark or share a particular view, either.

I am proposing an option to create a link to the page in its current view. Unfortunately, with all the AJAX and expanding/contracting, a link to the exact view isn't possible, but a link to a view of the article using the values on the threshold sliders in the commentbox would suffice (I don't know what else to call that floating thing, so I'm referring to it by its CSS name).

Additionally, I propose a "save" box on the commentbox by its sliders, just like what existed before.

(I'm not sure what version of slash is run by slashdot, so I left the Group field blank.)
