To see what I'm talking about, use firefox (I'm using firefox 3 on ubuntu jaunty) to navigate to the slashdot homepage, and then click on the "Read More..." link for a story in the news, science, or technology sections. What you'll see is that the titles of stories are displayed in white on a white background. Apparently the problem is that ".comment div.title { background:#044 url("//c.fsdn.com/sd/article-title-bg.png") repeat-x left top; }" is overridden by " .comment div.title { background:#fff!important; }"

After further testing, I found that this problem is only present when I'm logged in. If I log out, it goes away. Presumably I have something in my preferences that causes a certain version of the CSS to be displayed for me when I'm logged in, and that's the version that's messed up. I don't know which settings would be relevant, but feel free to look at the settings on my account. I'm user bcrowell.

I have more info on how to reproduce the problem. It only occurs if you have the dynamic index layout turned on. So to reproduce the problem, you have to do the following steps: (1) Go to slashdot.org/help, your preferences, dynamic index, layout, and uncheck Use Classic Index. (2) Go to the slashdot homepage. (3) Click on the "Read More..." link for a story in news, science, or technology.

The setting that affects this is classic index versus dynamic index. The bug occurs if you have dynamic index turned on.
