Steps to reproduce:

1) change your email address on live site.
http://slashdot.org/users.pl?op=edituser
2) Check Messaging status
http://slashdot.org/my/messages
3) Note that all fields are set to "no messages"

Reason for report:

It's not clear that changing your email requires the
messages preference to be reset. This is counter
intuitive. After all, I'm getting my old messages and am
changing the email address to keep getting these
messages.

suggested resolutions:

1) Clearly document that the user needs to reset the
messages preference. Perhaps in a follow up email or on
the confirmation screen suggest the user audit these
settings.
2) Do not reset the messaging preferences.

If you have recently had a bad address which made your email
bounce, you may have been automatically unsubscribed by my
script which turns off messages for bounces sent back to
    slashdot@slashdot.org. Following pudge's comments, I'm inclined
to think that's what has happened here.

This sounds reasonable. Spamcop was down for some time
(again) so I changed to my real email address. Thanks for
    clearing that up!

Since two eyes have looked at this, I'll close the bug as it
    seems not to replicatable ;>
