"Read Error" on Windows 7

    Hello,

    I'm using the latest versions of Pidgin and the Sipe plugin and getting the "Read Error" referenced in the FAQ section. The solution outlined appears to be related to Linux; what is the equivalent process for Windows machines?

    ENVIRONMENT
    Windows 7 Ent 64-bit (no admin rights)
    Pidgin 2.10.7
    Sipe 1.17.0
    Lync 2010 Server/Client on Windows active directory

    Are you an idiot??? I stated in my question the FAQ refers to Linux - I'm on Windows. If you aren't going to be helpful, don't post.

    1) Open the Start menu
    2) right-click on computer
    3) choose the "properties" menu option
    4) click the "advanced system settings" link
    5) click on the "environment variables" button
    6) click the "new" button under user variables
    7) Enter variable name: NSS_SSL_CBC_RANDOM_IV
    8) Enter variable value: 0

    Click "ok" a lot to exit all the menus. I think you need to logout and log back in for it to take effect.

    Thanks for responding. That particular solution doesn't work if you don't have Admin Rights, but it got me thinking. For others who may have this problem, there are two ways to address on Windows without Admin Rights:

    1) Use command line "SETX" function. Use setx /? to understand format.
    2) In Start Menu search, type User Accounts. On the left side of the dialog choose "Change My Environment Variables". This allows you to set the variables at the user id level (doesn't require admin rights) instead of the machine level. Enter "NSS_SSL_CBC_RANDOM_IV" and "0" and click okay. Logoff/On.

    Maybe the folks who manage this project can enhance the FAQ with useful information for Windows users.
