well i agree with packaging (for industry class deployment) but i do not think install script is uselless because it help setup a fully featured solution in minutes and help quickly discover the potential of shinken.

I think "apt-get install shinken" will always be easier ;)

For Debian/Ubuntu (and maybe others distros), we should focus on hosting our own repository, with up-to-date packages. This way, install will be easier and ready for industry.

Discovery is a really great tool and should survive the game. But it should integrate more than a way to do it (for example discovery process should be able to plug on various systems such as CMDB or inventory tools like fusion inventory). And that is already done, we just need to make it easier to extend (at least better documentation).

What about developing arbiter modules for cmdb instead of a discovery plugin for it ?

For skonf i think there is a lot of things to do, but the tool is in early beta (alpha ?) stage.

My point of view is that some modules should live in contrib before being available in official. (canopsis, tsca and so on for example)

Hello,

From my point of view, I would say :

- discovery module from my point of view is useless. I prefer developping a module that imports configuration from an external database (or even a csv import) that "guessing" stuff.
- custom install script. I would have prefered focusing on making packages for supported distro.
- maybe skonf, because I think it can help only beginners. People who are coming from Nagios's world don't need it right away.

Hi all,

I'm currently working on tagging feature for what is really important, and what is less.

I also would like to play a game that can help us to know how every one is looking at current features too. So we will play a funny game : If you got to delete a feature, which one will be the removed one?

I don't say that we will remove a feature if lot of people is agree about it (but why not after all), but it can help us a lot to see what is really important for the project, and what can be put aside from now.

Ready? Kill a feature!

Jean
