2.6.2-4 uses new builds of evolution, libbonobo, evolution-data-server and orbit2. I suggest everyone download it and install in a clean environment (iow, get rid of all traces of your previous install). Note that this installer leaves some processes open, as Evolution is now able to connect to them once loaded up again. Yay.
Still not able to access Exchange with the new build. tried http, https, plain text and secure password options with user@domain, FQDN\user, FQDN/user and user permeutations.
Also looked at the traffic with Ethereal. Our server does require https so it is responding with a forbidden messages as expected using http. Using https I see that the server is responding although I cannot see the contents of the packets since they are encrypted.
I am also not able to authenticate (during install) to my company's OWA using https. http is not available so it's https or nothing.
The error message is:
Could not connect to server .
Make sure the URL is correct and try again.
Does the extra space after the word "server" perhaps indicate an empty variable for the OWA server?
The above may be somewhat misleading; we're using Scalix in MAPI mode, which should offer the same interface as Exchange. We are not using Exchange. Web mail access is available, though.
Still no joy for me on connecting to Exchange either. Same error message as before. I think I might open the code and take a look.
That is if the sources for the latest build were available on the site :)
It not being there would put me at odds with the GPL. We don't like that ;) http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=159440&package_id=194380&release_id=426556
While it's still making its way to sourceforge mirrors, it's indeed there.
I'll take a peek around in the code and see what I come up with. If I figure anything out, I'll submit a patch.
This guy is interesting to build, anyone have tips they can give for environment setup, etc for building evolution on windows?
I'm also unable to connect to our microsoft exchange server via https.
Does a microsoft exchange server connector need to be installed also?
Mr. Joe Nobody
Same no gui crap, different build.
Joe, you might wanna submit some info if you expect to be helped. Calling it "crap" won't really get anyone anywhere.
Did you uninstall the previous version before installing the MSI? After uninstalling, did you remove the leftover c:\program files\evolution directory? You said earlier that you edited the paths. Did you edit them this time around or leave it alone?
Mr. Joe Nobody
Again, since my last post was censored... excuse me, deleted.
I uninstalled, manually removed, I have no GAIM, GIMP, etc...
Downloaded the latest build, installed the msi on my XP Pro SP2 box. No mods to the scripts per the instructions. Ran it, exe runs, but no GUI once again.
I am also experiencing the no gui problem. I am running winxp sp2. I do not have gimp or GTK on this system. I am running the windows port of open office. We also run groupwise. I have installed and deinstalled the application several times. I remove any folders left over after removing the program, before re installing the msi.
I can see in task manager that a cmd process, the evolution process, and the gconfd process all show up, but never a gui or an error message.
the following is my modified path statement:
PATH=C:\Program Files\Evolution\bin;C:\Program Files\Evolution\lib\evolution\2.6
ystem32\nls;C:\WINDOWS\system32\nls\ENGLISH;C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adapte
c Shared\System;C:\Program Files\Novell\ZENworks\;C:\Program Files\Executive Sof
I hope this is helpful to someone. I am very excited about the possibilities of using this client.
thanks in advance
I dont run Groupwise but I am running Novell client.
I am also running the novell client. Sorry i left that out.
I have installed 2.6.2-4 (clean install after
removing 2.6.2-3) and no problems. I have GTK
and GIMP installed on WinXP Pro/SP2/HP Pavilion
ze2000 series laptop (ze2113us/AMD Sempron 2800+/
1GB RAM) with all current MS updates. This is a
dual-boot system (SUSE 10.0/XP Pro) and I do not
require connection to an Exchange Server so I can
not test that aspect of this program. I have a ton
of programs installed on this system so unless I
see some specific program conflicts, I will not
even try to post my program laundy list. I will
post if any problems arise.
A side note... those people having problems with
this install with regards to missing GUI, it has
to do with something on your system. I've not had
the 'missing GUI' problem since v2.6.2-2 and I was
able to correct that with the 'rename GTK' fix.
Access your error logs and see if any messages are
posting at the time of starting Evolution.
Once i get the error window, the Application Log shows two events, both labled "Application Hang". Once was category "none" the other "(101)".
Just a tip for volunteer testers: if you are having some hard-to-pinpoint troubles, such as no GUI showing up, a helpful (free) tool is PsExplorer from www.sysinternals.com. It is a task-manager replacement that gives much much more detailed information about running processes.
On the same website there are also other handy tools, to eg. monitor in realtime all accesses to filesystem or to registry. Of course, to debug network connection problems (OWA anyone?), you can just use ethereal - another nice oss app with a gnome gui ported to windows...
After installation I ran Evolution which crashed.
The following error message was in the event log
Application popup: Evolution Setup Assistant: evolution-2.6.exe - Application Error : The instruction at "0x00a1359a" referenced memory at "0x6563619a". The memory could not be "read".
Click on OK to terminate the program
Click on CANCEL to debug the program
2.6.2-5 fixed my problem
Now I have another one :-)
