How about creating a Beta newer than 9-22 (at
least by renaming an older alpha

Look at my potentially splendid idea:

5 years ago Igor bumped the version number from 4.65 to 9.00, arguing with year 2009, and versions 4.xx having started back in 2004. This caused a lot of feedback ranging form very confused to very angry. What about releasing the next version as 7-ZIP 14.00 superstable ? There are just 20 days until 2014 ;-)

    2) Now I'll keep my current strict decoding code.
I can change it, if I see more reasons for that.

This had been discussed already 1'000'000'000 times. Some time ago
7-ZIP stopped extracting TAR archives without at least 1 MiB of
ZERO's attached to the end, while some other archivers still can.
Also 7-ZIP can't extract some broken(?) ISO files while some other
    archivers still can.

Solution: keep strict mode by default, add optional recovery mode
forgiving whatever can be forgiven (no TAR padding, bad TAR sum, bad CRC,
semi-broken ISO, FAT, NTSC, ... bad CAB, truncated archive, ...).

So now it requires Windows 2000 just to run it, even though the changes from 9.31alpha do not actually rely on features within Windows 2000 operating system? That is quite a frivolous change, especially when it doesn't introduce new compression.

    hi

Are you planning to integrate anti-virus scan in 7zip File Manager?

    Thanks

    Igor.

1 Item CRC SHA> always in the context menu and can not be moved to a cascading menu :(

2 When you start CRC SHA appear two dialogues: (a) Checksum calculating ... and (b) Checksum information
    - When calculating the CRC SHA small file\files dialog (a) does not have time to appear and there is only dialogue (b). But dialogue (b) have not icon on the taskbar and it's uncomfortable, you may lose the window behind other windows on the screen.

3 In the dialog box (b) there is no possibility to copy the results. Only Ctrl+C.
Maybe the contents dialogue (b) immediately copied to the clipboard to simplify the process of copying the results obtained ?

    Hi.

7.32 is unable to extract, test, Winamp.exe, reporting "Error : Data Error" for each file in the .exe.

7.30 is able to do so.

Here is what going on in that video.
First archive unpacking is performed from shell extension, 7-zip ask for file replacement, ok button is selected and everything goes fine.
Second time same action is performed by dragging and dropping files from 7zfm to windows explorer, but file replacement dialog goes out of focus, and cannot be pressed or closed via mouse, so 7zfm task is ended using taskmgr.

        You are right.
The test was not clean, I'm sorry.

  • A little bug for me:
While compressing many files, the "name of current file being compressed" and "number of files processed" freezes and does not update anymore.

Please, upload a zip version for these test builds. Installer are only for RC or stable builds. It allows not to screw stable installed version.

      1) You can unpack exe installer to any folder
But it can be more difficult for x64 msi file.
      2) You can install any number of 7-Zip copies to different folders. And all of them will use same copy of registry for settings.

You can install 7-Zip 9.30 to "7-Zip" folder and
then you can copy files from "7-Zip" to "7-Zip930".
Then you can install 7-Zip 9.32 to "7-Zip" folder and
copy files from "7-Zip" to "7-Zip932".

      So you will have
      "7-Zip" with 7-Zip 9.32
      "7-Zip932" with 7-Zip 9.32
      "7-Zip930" with 7-Zip 9.30.

And you can use any of these folders, but "7-Zip" will be main (explorer will use dll from that folder).
If you want to make "7-Zip930" as main program, just
remove "7-Zip" folder and copy files from "7-Zip930" to "7-Zip".

Thank you for your answer, I know I can do that, but it's way easier to unzip directly in the folder I want without having to mess with an installer.

By the way, do you recommend using the 64 bits version, or do you think it's less stable and does not bring improvement over 32 bits version (except using more than 4 GB, quite unusual) ?

Both 32-bit and 64-bit versions are the same in most things.
      But
      1) There is some probability that there are bugs related to 64-bit code.
      2) There are some bugs in 64-bit MSVC compiler. I hope that
7-Zip does not use the code related to these bugs.
As I understand some MSVC compiler's bugs were fixed in latest Visual Studio 2013. So I plan to use that new compiler in future.

Why not use gcc - virtualbox uses GCC for 32 and 64 bit, and I should think it has more code than 7zip. They seem to think it isn't buggy.

        Is it a performance issue?
