#1292 Drag and drop not compatible with McAfee Endpoint Encryption

Dan Stevens

On systems with McAfee Endpoint Encryption for Files and Folders version 3.* installed it is not possible to extract files from an archive by dragging the file from 7zip into a folder. Doing so results in the following error message from EEFF:

Error: 0x80270035

The possible cause to this issue in McAfee knowledge base article KB73498 (https://kc.mcafee.com/corporate/index?page=content&id=KB73498):

"7-Zip is an open-source application that functions differently from the commercially available WinZip archive application. WinZip keeps the temp folder file until the WinZip application closes to ensure that the copy operation completes. 7-Zip removes the temp folder file before the copy operation is able to complete."

I also just noticed this problem when I tried to extract some files from an archive via drag-and-drop with a machine that has Intel Anti-Theft version 2.0 installed. The problem does not occur if the files are extracted without drag-and-drop functionality.

It seems like Intel Anti-Theft also uses McAfee Endpoint Encryption as the backend for the 'File Protection' part of its features.
