Do you guys know about MarkItUp ? http://markitup.jaysalvat.com/home/ It's a very sleek markup editor, running with jQuery, easily configurable and which supports wiki syntax as well as a built-in draggable handle to expand the text area. It also comes with a plugin for MW to get you started. It took me just a couple hours to fiddle with it and get it to run in my wiki and best of all, bind it to both regular 'source' text areas as well as 'free text' SF text areas. I am sure it can be also enabled to text area fields - I haven't tried it yet, but since it can be bound to either an element ID or a class, it should be possible. I just finished adding menus to frequently used templates to help people insert MW widgets, tables, quotes and so on. I don't usually gush over a tool like that but this can be a great replacement of the default wiki editor if you don't like WYSIWYG editors. - Laurent |

Hi Laurent, The wiki demo of it [1] certainly looks nice, although it doesn't look all that different from the "WikiEditor" MediaWiki extension, [2] which you can see for example on Wikipedia. [3] And functionally it's not that different from the old/standard toolbar either. [4] Of course, neither of these are available in SF, and maybe they're harder to implement than MarkItUp would be... still, I think it makes sense to at least try for one or both of these first; unless there's some cool feature I'm missing about MarkItUp. -Yaron [1] http://markitup.jaysalvat.com/examples/wiki/ [2] http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:WikiEditor [3] http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Placeholder&action=edit [4] http://semantic-mediawiki.org/w/index.php?title=Semantic_MediaWiki&action=edit -Yaron On Sat, Jan 29, 2011 at 12:22 PM, Laurent Alquier <la...@al...>wrote: > Do you guys know about MarkItUp ? > > http://markitup.jaysalvat.com/home/ > > It's a very sleek markup editor, running with jQuery, easily configurable > and which supports wiki syntax as well as a built-in draggable handle to > expand the text area. > It also comes with a plugin for MW to get you started. > > It took me just a couple hours to fiddle with it and get it to run in my > wiki and best of all, bind it to both regular 'source' text areas as well as > 'free text' SF text areas. > I am sure it can be also enabled to text area fields - I haven't tried it > yet, but since it can be bound to either an element ID or a class, it should > be possible. > > I just finished adding menus to frequently used templates to help people > insert MW widgets, tables, quotes and so on. > > I don't usually gush over a tool like that but this can be a great > replacement of the default wiki editor if you don't like WYSIWYG editors. > > - Laurent > > > ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ > Special Offer-- Download ArcSight Logger for FREE (a $49 USD value)! > Finally, a world-class log management solution at an even better > price-free! > Download using promo code Free_Logger_4_Dev2Dev. I agree - it is probably comparable to the new WIkiEdtior (maybe a little less because of the new toolbar system it introduces). MarkItUp does have a pull down menu and possibility of dialogs that the standard toolbar doesn't have, and the configuration of menus is a lot easier than with the standard toolbar. I really like this one because it is simple and can be attached to both regular text areas and SF free text. Beyond that, I should probably take another look at the new WikiEditor. Last time I tried it, it introduced weird changes of behavior of the editor itself - probably because of CSS / JS conflicts with my skin at the time. - Laurent On Jan 30, 2011, at 9:08 AM, Yaron Koren wrote: > Hi Laurent, > > The wiki demo of it [1] certainly looks nice, although it doesn't look all that different from the "WikiEditor" MediaWiki extension, [2] which you can see for example on Wikipedia. Hi Laurent, We would like to hear on your progress testing this solution, as on how it could replace the textarea and other textentry fields within the forms. If you have working solution, you might want to share it. Hi, I tried both the bundled version and the other version from the extension page, but nothing happens. It shows up in Special:Version, but the standard editor shows. How did you get it to work? regards, Bernhard ----- Ursprüngliche Mail ----- > Do you guys know about MarkItUp ? > > http://markitup.jaysalvat.com/home/ > > It's a very sleek markup editor, running with jQuery, easily > configurable and which supports wiki syntax as well as a built-in > draggable handle to expand the text area. > It also comes with a plugin for MW to get you started. > > It took me just a couple hours to fiddle with it and get it to run in > my wiki and best of all, bind it to both regular 'source' text areas > as well as 'free text' SF text areas. > I am sure it can be also enabled to text area fields - I haven't tried > it yet, but since it can be bound to either an element ID or a class, > it should be possible. > > I just finished adding menus to frequently used templates to help > people insert MW widgets, tables, quotes and so on. > > I don't usually gush over a tool like that but this can be a great > replacement of the default wiki editor if you don't like WYSIWYG > editors. > > - Laurent > > ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ > Special Offer-- Download ArcSight Logger for FREE (a $49 USD value)! > Finally, a world-class log management solution at an even better > price-free! > Download using promo code Free_Logger_4_Dev2Dev. strange: now I tried http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:WikiEditor but still, nothing happens. WikiEditor and UsabilityInitiative are shown (used the versions for MW 1.16). But if I hit on edit, the old editor is shown... and ideas? -Bernhard > Hi, > > I tried both the bundled version and the other version from the > extension page, but nothing happens. It would be really great if this could be got working with SF text fields (not just the free text). This is a top ask from my user base. As it's jquery this should be possible? Thanks Neill.
