Is there some way to make SMW learn creating simple polls on wikipages? My goal for using SMW would be to take the poll output over time and graph it using the semantic result format "graph". An example for such a poll would be: "How is the price for gas" -5 far too low 0 just right 5 far too high This subjective poll is bound to change over time, and I'd like to graph the trend of perception of the community, but I didn't find anything that would be capable of polling and automatically annotating the result in set timeintervals. There's no good way, unfortunately, to have SMW store the kind of two-dimensional data you're talking about; and having SMW be the back-end of a polling interface is probably more work than it's worth as well. I'd suggest seeing if there's already a MediaWiki extension that does what you want; if not, see if there's an embeddable polling utility anywhere out there that does that kind of time-based graphing; if so, you could easily embed it into the wiki using the Widgets extension. Short question: Is there an easy way to import serveral hundred BibTeX entries into an Publication/Author SMW? I am exploring the XML import from Data Transfer, but rather than reinventing the wheel, I just wonder if someone has done this before. Succes en plezier, Martien. |

I have a large amount of code that does this but I'm not ready to release the application in general. You may notice a near symmetry in the wikitext/bibtex formats. They are very easy to convert between. I suggest the following pipeline: bib2xml | xml2bib # This standardizes your bibtex http://www.scripps.edu/~cdputnam/software/bibutils/ Bib2Dictionary | CustomFilteringStep | Dictionary2Wikitext | # These are very simple string functions that perform only the work needed to get your data into the wiki. 1 hour of work. Lastly, create properties for the bibtex fields in your wiki and write a bot that creates one page per entry, with the bibtex key as the title of the page. I have some beta code (not very strong) for that job.
