wiki.laptop.org adapts the dynamic
query to show upcoming events. This works great when there's a specific
page for an event on a specific date[**].
But users always forget to update recurring meetings. The page says
"Every Tuesday at 1500 Boston time..." or
"Thursdays at 4pm EST..."
and it's a hassle to keep finding and editing the
"... thus the next meeting is at [[Start date::2008-02-24 15:00]]."
One answer is to use a string property like
[[Recurring event::Tuesdays at 15:00 EST]]
and add a query that just displays these. But the query results don't
display in the same list as Start_dates, don't populate a calendar,
don't have a sort order...
I looked at
etc. and either it doesn't apply (" Arbitrary recurring dates are not
supported by this datatype") or is very complicated. I suspect the way
to go is a template that creates a human-readable recurring event string
and also populates hidden Interval, Frequency, Byday properties, but
it'll be complicated for users. Has anyone gone down this road?
Thanks for any suggestions!
[**] BTW, we used http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:Inputbox to
guide users in creating a subpage for each in a series of events; see
<http://wiki.laptop.org/go/User:Skierpage#Create_a_meeting>. Though it
should be yet more automated to derive the Start_date from the subpage's
