hello to the list. i am new to MW and SMW, but have worked with wordpress, which also uses php+mysql, so the general procedure of installing was familiar. BUT: i just tried to install the SMW extension on my freshly installed MedaWiki. i made it through steps 1-3 in the INSTALL (http://svn.wikimedia.org/svnroot/mediawiki/trunk/extensions/SemanticMediaWiki/INSTALL), but since then my MW does not load because of the following error: ***** Fatal error: Call to undefined function enableSemantics() in /var/www/vhosts/graffics.de/httpdocs/LocalSettings.php on line 124 ***** i double-checked the two modifications of the files and if the SMW files are in the right place, but the error remains. does anyone has a quick idea about it? i have also some more question regarding the project i want to use SMW for. it is intented to be a semantical image gallery (i know that now, after reading something about your project. when we started to plan the gallery we quickly came to this solution, but had no name for it.) are they existing extensions, tutorials, hints or other things i should get informed about regarding the massive use of images in a wiki? (or say: a wiki which is all about images, not text) thanks for now, max |

Are you using the latest code from Subversion, or did you download SMW 0.6 from SourceForge? The installation instructions for 0.6 are different from the latest code. Follow the instructions in your local INSTALL file (perhaps it's in httpdocs/extensions/SemanticMediaWiki/INSTALL). > i have also some more question regarding the project i want to use SMW > for. it is intented to be a semantical image gallery (i know that now, > after reading something about your project. when we started to plan > the gallery we quickly came to this solution, but had no name for it.) > are they existing extensions, tutorials, hints or other things i > should get informed about regarding the massive use of images in a > wiki? (or say: a wiki which is all about images, not text) That seems more a MediaWiki question. http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Help:Images_and_other_uploaded_files has information and useful links. It's not clear what you want to do. You could create a template that creates semantic notation about images. E.g. adapt http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Template:Information so that it creates attribute values and relations. But users still have to insert this and other wiki text by editing the image's Wiki page. If you want to automate creation of semantic information from images, I think you'd have to hack MediaWiki's Image.php, ImagePage.php, etc. But I don't know much about this. (I didn't know that MediaWiki can display EXIF metadata information from an image file until just now -- check out http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Tusheti1.jpg#metadata ) -- =S Page |

I am not sure how the semantic extensions work together with images -- but I am sure you will figure it out! :) Looking forward to see it working on your site. cheers, denny Max Albrecht wrote: > On 2/28/07, S Page <ski...@ea... > <mailto:ski...@ea...>> wrote: > > > Follow the instructions in your local INSTALL file (perhaps it's in > > httpdocs/extensions/SemanticMediaWiki/INSTALL). > > that is indeed a good idea :) i have just used the one linked in the and > not even though of lookin it up in the file i've downloaded. i will get > right on it. > > > > That seems more a MediaWiki question. > > http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Help:Images_and_other_uploaded_files has > > information and useful links. > that is true, thanks for the link. > > > It's not clear what you want to do. > > about the project: it's more or less a spare time project to build a new > form of graffiti site. not just the 1000th gallery page in the web, but > the ultimate archive where you can find exactly the pictures as you > describe as well as the exact piece you're searching for. i will be > working together with my crew <http://www.colorviolence.net/> on that > (we happen to be a registered society which makes thing a lot easier), > but that means that i am going to finish the system and then more and > more people add pictures to the database while i work on a hopefully > sensefull interface. > > we will be trying to collect the hightest sane amount of data for every > picture, and the structure for that is cleared out since some time. i > just found SMW two days ago and realized that it is the ultimate > solution for our project. > > > You could create a template that creates semantic notation about images. > > E.g. adapt http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Template:Information > <http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Template:Information> so > > that it creates attribute values and relations. (just use and works) greetings, max |
