Not really. I am an ocasional Unix/Linux user. I didn't know about
ar until very recently. I did look into tar and found it to be too
complex for what I needed at the time (July 2003).

It is not only sdcclib that would have to be modified but aslink as
well. On the other hand, any file format that has an index of files
and symbols and archives both object and debug information should work fine.
