The xgate processor is risc. It has 8 general 16 bit registers that can
be used as source and destination for all the instructions. It doesn't
have an accumulator. 8 bit operations are done as half wide operations
on the 16 bit registers.
The xgate memory map is flat. 64K addressed by one of the registers.
What processor does the group recommend we start with ?
Keep the following in mind:
a) At some point we want to hook a debugger like gdb into our target.
The hc08 port supports elf object files, but I've been told they won't
support gdb. We could also use sdgdb.
b) The AVR is risc and has a bank of 16 bit registers.
I'll document everything relayed to me on this subject into the HOWTO.
