I noticed with #7827 that a gmake install (to an empty directory) followed immediately by gmake uninstall leaves some files behind:

opensolaris:/build/sdcc-20120531-7827> rm -rf /build/install
opensolaris:/build/sdcc-20120531-7827> gmake install
[ snip ]
opensolaris:/build/sdcc-20120531-7827> gmake uninstall
[ snip ]
opensolaris:/build/sdcc-20120531-7827> find /build/install/ -type f
/build/install/include/bfd.h
/build/install/include/ansidecl.h
/build/install/include/symcat.h
/build/install/include/bfdlink.h
/build/install/lib/libiberty.a
/build/install/lib/libbfd.a
/build/install/lib/libbfd.la
/build/install/bin/sdranlib
/build/install/bin/sdnm
/build/install/bin/sdar

My configure line:
$ ./configure --prefix=/build/install --disable-mcs51-port --disable-gbz80-port --disable-ds390-port --disable-ds400-port --disable-pic16-port --disable-pic14-port --disable-hc08-port --disable-ucsim --disable-sdcdb --disable-r2k-port --disable-gbz80-port --disable-r3ka-port
