When ego walks near to the bottom of the screen a two pixel wide area of the underneath lying "item boxes" gets (re)drawn (those pixels are missing in the first place-instead the game area is drawn over them)
Just walk ego to the bottom and let him/her walk there as close to the bottom as possible.
(This goes for all the rooms on the ship i could test - only Quinn right now, but i'll assume it's everywhere)
