During the blue vortex in the intro, pressing any key
(including space, which should pause the game) skips
the vortex and cuts to the mansion lake scene.
I don't know what's happening, but is this really a bug? The
original seems to behave in the exact same way.
(As a side note, some SCUMM games - perhaps most of them -
can change the "pause" key by setting the VAR_PAUSE_KEY
variable. I don't know if any game other than DOTT ever sets
that variable to 0, though.)

Closing as invalid, as this isn't a bug.
The scripts of SCUMM games often disable the pause key and
load/save key during the games.
