Which version of screem? I'm not sure which version Potato
has in it. Sid (unstable) has the latest version in.

If you built from the source code its probably that screem
isn't installed where gnome is (ie in /usr)
If this is the case then:

    ln -s $prefix/share/mime-info/screem.mime ~/.gnome/mime-info/
    ln -s $prefix/share/mime-info/screem.keys ~/.gnome/mime-info/

    may sort it out.

I have screem 0.4.1 with the Mandrake distrib, but when I
start /usr/bin/screem, there is a windows (creating
interface) ant nothing else. I have uninstalled and
reinstalled the package, but it's the same...
    what can I doing ?

p.s. sorry for my bad english ...

I'm exhibiting this same problem. While this is probably a
trivial problem to the author, this is a show stopper for
    someone using it...

    screem-0.4.1]# screem

screem-ERROR **: No Syntax files found, check your
    installation

    aborting...
    Aborted (core dumped)

2 different issues are here, the syntax files one is already
answered in the first followup (at the bottom)

the lockup on start up is a gconf / distribution issue,
which seems to effect Mandrake mainly (use of Redhat RPMS
    possibly?)

Closing due to syntax file issue being answered, and I'm
sick of Mandrake users whining about screem being crap and
not starting up when its not screem's problem
