Ok, so what is different about how SciTE starts a process as compared to running the same command in cmd.exe?

SciTE is not using a shell. Each command is performed individually, commonly by calling CreateProcess on Windows.

[feature-requests:#1057] Lots of popups when compiling python extensions on windows

SciTE is pretty much awesome in every way and I have been using it every day for several years. Keep up the good work!

There is though something that has been frustrating me for ages and I want to know how I can make it go away. When I compile a python extension module using a script in SciTE, I get lots and lots of command prompt popups on my screen each time it runs a call to visual studio compiler. And each time the command prompt is opened, it gains focus, which means that SciTE takes over control of the computer with all the popups that occur and I can't do anything else. How can I ensure that the popups don't appear?

If I run my build script directly in the command prompt, no additional command prompt windows are generated, so this is definitely a SciTE issue.
