FWIW, the SBCL's answer is to let the user do the load-foreign trickery
manually, save the resulting shared object in a sensible place and load it
 I've a hunch that there actually exist commandline tools to tackle
the task of turning .a's into .so's, but not sure. A shortish
guide to doing this might be nice to have in the manual.
