I'm running 1.0.23 - only 0.0.10 behind!. I can't remember the updating
sigh! I think I download and then run install.sh during which SBCL
Am I correct in this ?

If you want threads, though, you need to build SBCL locally (assuming
you are on a platform where threads are supported):
1. Download source.
2. echo "(lambda (f) (cons :sb-thread f))" > customize-target-features.lisp
3. sh make.sh # wait a while
4. Run install.sh as root.
