Dan's mentioned the problems he had with the gencgc.c patch; however, the temptation for a future maintainer to attempt to build sbcl on x86 with a value of N-WORD-BYTES that isn't 4 is much smaller than trying to change PAGE_BYTES, so I've merged the x86-vm patch into sbcl-0.pre8.14.
