Thanks for mentioning the build failures, I think this is what has been blocking progress in Debian. They are having problems with sparc and alpha; there is some debate on whether to remove support for those architectures or update them. I'm neutral on this (don't use those platforms) but I'd like to see the next release get a more modern SBCL for those architectures that are supported.
